Urban Skim Park (www.urbanskimpark.com) was developed at the request of the City of Malmoe (www.malmo.se). The purpose of the Urban Skim Park is to provide an easily accessible water activity in an urban environment. Urban Skim Park can be established in an open area and offers visitors to go skimboard in an entry-level line, while advanced practitioners can perform tricks on different features in a parallel line. The activity is suitable both as a hands-on activity for beginners, for shows and contests.
Skimboarding is a water sport that emerged in the water’s edge at beaches. A skimboard can be described as a mixture of a skateboard and a surfboard. The practitioner runs and throws his board in front of him in shallow water just before he jumps up on it.
Urban Skim Park Competition, the first contest of its kind in the Nordic countries, is arranged as a part of Urban Beach in July 2011 at the Western Harbour in Malmoe and implemented in cooperation with SkimX (www.skimx.se).
